lodestone update 12-04-2008

Dear Lodestoners:

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  We're gearing up for our fundraising show next week.  More info below and flyer attached but we ask everyone to help get the word out.  It's only four shows so we want to fill them all and bring in lots of money for our final season.

Auditions for our next production of TEN TO LIFE will be in mid-jan.  Please make sure to report your volunteer hours to Ryun by the end of the month if you plan on auditioning: ryun.yu@gmail.com

Remember no meeting in Dec.  We'll be back on Jan. 13 for the first meeting of our last year.

AFTER DARK:

As members should know, the show will be filled with musical numbers, sketches, and celebrity guests dropping on on different nights doing things you'll probably never see them do again.  Because of the scope of this show, it's required a lot of work so we'd like to thank everyone who is volunteering both on stage and behind the scenes to make this a success.  A big chunk of the show will be a no-holds barred Lodestone roast featuring a look back at our history, our plays and even a Lodestone vs. East West Players battle that will poke fun at who we are.  Plus you'll get numbers like XANADU (w/ original Xanadu muse Marilyn Tokuda on roller skates) and Chil Kong as one of the three little maids.  We're trying to keep some of the best stuff a surprise so you'll just have to come and see.  Because of the different guests each night, the show will be different every night.

If you'd like to volunteer and get hours for this show.  We need:

USHERS--For every night.  Only two ushers needed per night so it will be on a first-come basis (some nights are almost filled).  To volunteer, send your name, your contact info to Christina at: ccnayve@yahoo.com.  To get your hours, you must arrive at theater at 6:45 Pm to help set up and stay after to help clean up.

BACKSTAGE CREW HELP--We need one more person backstage to help ASM Angie Tsang.  Since there are a lot of different acts and a different show each night, this person will help Angie keep track and keep the show moving.  You will need to be available for all four shows (Dec 11-14, 8 PM) and one or two rehearsals earlier in the week to learn the job.  To volunteer contact Junko at: junko@junkogoda.com

ANNETTE LEE'S SHOW:

English Only

a new play by Annette Lee

directed by Richard Martinez

In 1986, the small suburban city of Monterey Park, outside downtown Los Angeles, opposed a sudden influx of new Chinese residents by declaring English the official language of the city.  Revisit a world of big hair, shoulder pads, and prom dresses through the eyes of 17 year-old Scarlett Wong as she explores what's going on at City Hall.

A play examining race, culture, and the English Only referendum in Monterey Park, California.

EMILY LIU'S FILM OPENING:

Please go out and support this bold film that I shot a few years ago.  It is incredible that a film with no budget and no names made it this far - from its debut at Sundance, to the AFI film festival, to an actual theatrical release by a major distributor.  The director was also recently nominated for an IFP Gotham Award for Breakthrough Director.  The life of this film depends on you.  If the movie does well, then Magnolia will roll out the movie into other cities.  And for those of you going just to support me, I star in the last vignette so sit tight!  ;)
