American Monsters 2
written by Corinne Chooey, Isaac Ho, Angela Kang, Oanh Ly,
and Judy Soo Hoo
directed by Miranda Yousef
October 29th through November 27th, 2005

American Monsters 2, which kicks off the sixth season of work by the acclaimed Asian American theater company, continues the provocative and often darkly humorous examination of the underbelly of American culture started in the highly successful production American Monsters in 2000.  The newest incarnation of this series is an omnibus of five original one-act plays loosely based on Grimm’s fairy tales.  Each of these modern adaptations lifts and twists an original dark element from the classic morality tales.

Golden Hour
written by Philip W. Chung
directed by Jeff Liu
April 15th through May 31st, 2006

“What does it take to maintain faith in a world seemingly without hope?”  The Golden Hour explores that question through the story of Laura Park, a young Korean American woman who appears to be on the cusp of a promising future.  But after suffering a near-death experience and unable to shake the haunting memory of a stranger’s prayer, Laura is forced to examine that question for the first time as she embarks on a journey that will challenge her fundamental beliefs.

One Nation, Under God
written by Philip W. Chung
directed by Philip W. Chung
August 5th through 27th, 2006

“All of our plays this season touched on the themes of faith and spirituality so Philip’s play is the perfect way to cap this cycle,” says Co-Artistic Director Chil Kong. “One Nation, Under God is in some ways a companion piece to Philip’s last play The Golden Hour. But whereas his previous play took a positive look at how faith can lead to deeper human connections, this new play is more disturbing. It basically explores how blind faith can sometimes have destructive and tragic consequences.”2005AM2.html2005Golden.html2005OneNation.html2005AM2.html2005Golden.html2005OneNation.htmlshapeimage_3_link_0shapeimage_3_link_1shapeimage_3_link_2
